Happy Easter

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you're all stuffing your faces with chocolate even though it's a horrible day outside! I'm sure those of you who follow my blog closely will be sick of all the fairytale themed posts by now, but basically the previous dress that I made for my textiles coursework really wasn't good enough so rather than improve something that I really hate, I decided to completely re-do the project by making a third dress. I'm much happier with this one and it's sewn sooo much better than my last piece. Anyway, my brother took these photos and he took on the role of photographer very well (I think he enjoyed bossing me around...) so here are a selection of them.

Motel Wish List

It feels like forever since I last posted but it's actually only been a week (the easter holidays have dragged along so slowly...perhaps due to the amount of work I've been swamped with). Anyway, hopefully I'll have some spare time soon to do some blog reading catch up as I miss seeing everyone's outfits!
So I just wanted to do a quick post based around my Motel summer wish list. Motel is definitely the number one place for spring/summer inspiration and even if you don't have enough pennies at the moment to actually buy something from there (*raises hand*), it's great for gaining ideas (...and then in my case trying to search for cheaper versions on ebay.)

Plaid

I bought this fabric yesterday and instantly knew I wanted to make a pair of trousers out of it. The only thing was that I'd never ever made trousers before and I had to find a step by step guide to help me measure out my own pattern pieces (which took longer than the actual construction). They turned out perfect which I am still in shock about as there's almost always something that goes wrong if I'm trying out a new style. If you're interested in buying them, I've put them in my shop here. I didn't have a top to go with them so I quickly made this leather look shirt to show in this post (but I'll probably use the fabric for something else later on). And of course not forgetting my amazing new heels from Office.

Knit

To be honest I'd completely forgotten I actually owned both this skirt and jumper which is why they've never been on my blog before. I bought this skirt in the January sales from New Look (£9) but found that it wasn't the right size so it took ages for me to get around to adjusting it, and the jumper is just something that I've had in my wardrobe for a very long time. In other news, I've been on a hunt for a necklace just like Megan's, Shannon's and Charlotte's on ebay but haven't gone as far as to actually buy one yet...I'm not very good at buying jewellery.

How was your weekend? What do you think of my outfit?

New in: heels

Time is going past scarily fast at the moment which is partly the reason I haven't blogged in a week. I recently bought these shoes using my office gift card (a birthday present from my friends). They were on sale and only £30 which I thought was quite a good deal considering a lot of the shoes in office have quite a high price tag. My thought process involved: I can probably justify buying them if I wear them to my end of sixth form leavers ball....and if not they're still really pretty and I can just admire them from inside my bedroom....Anyway, I was really pleasantly surprised when they arrived as they are so nice and do in fact go with the dress I had planned to wear. As they're so steep/at an angle they are a bit uncomfortable but I love the style so much I don't mind.

Spring

Here is the dress I made the other week. It's not absolutely perfect and I made quite a few mistakes along the way but my main aim was to try out some new techniques, plus I managed to fully line it. The green fabric was incredibly difficult to work with as it's so thin and stretchy but I think the overall look at the end is really nice, especially with the white paisley fabric for the top and underskirt.

Tumblr Favourites

I had planned to show you a dress I made recently, however it's quite summery and I didn't think photographing it in the rain would be very nice (I've heard it's going to be warm at the weekend though...). Instead, here's just a selection of some of my favourite images on tumblr at the moment...

Sequins

I have a more dressy outfit today, since I wanted to show this sequined skirt I received as a birthday present from my mum. It's so nice (...I can spot something sparkly from the other side of the shop) and hopefully I'll have the chance to wear it some point soon. I tried to style it more casually here by pairing it with this sheer shirt (another gift) and my topshop boots. Let me know what you think and how you would style it...

Yiqing Yin Critical Study

I had an early finish at school today so I got started on a dress which I will hopefully show you next week if I don't mess it up! This dress, however, is another part of my textiles coursework. Just like in my other post, I had to respond to an artist/designer.I chose to look at Yiqing Yin (anyone who has followed my blog for a while may recognise some of the work since I showed it in this post). As the response is only supposed to be a 2 to 3 hour piece, mine is obviously not quite as extravagant and the edges etc. don't actually need to be finished. The top had 8 different panels which I had plan out by making my own pattern pieces and then fitting them together kind of like a jigsaw. I actually really liked working with lots of sections as it's alot more interesting than the usual one piece for the front and one for the back. The skirt is just an ordinary circle skirt cut into panels.  Unfortunately, the photos don't really do the dress justice which is annoying.

What do you think of my response?
